Marvel Expands Film Lineup at Comic-Con

Marvel Studios made one of its biggest appearances in recent years at San Diego Comic-Con 2026, unveiling an ambitious lineup of upcoming films while revealing new characters, surprise cast announcements, and exclusive footage that offered fans a glimpse into the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).

The headline announcement of the event was the official confirmation of Black Panther 3, scheduled for release on December 15, 2028. Director Ryan Coogler returns to lead the project, while British actor David Jonsson has been cast as T’Challa’s son, introducing a new Black Panther to the franchise. Returning cast members Letitia Wright and Winston Duke will reprise their roles, continuing the legacy of Wakanda following the passing of Chadwick Boseman.

Another major surprise came with the introduction of Ryan Gosling to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Marvel confirmed that Gosling will portray Ghost Rider in a standalone film directed by Shawn Levy, marking the fiery antihero’s official MCU debut. Marvel also showcased the first exclusive footage from Avengers: Doomsday, the next major crossover event that will bring together heroes from across the MCU. The preview introduced Doctor Doom, portrayed by Robert Downey Jr., as the franchise’s next central villain. Fans attending Hall H were also treated to a special announcement that Avengers: Endgame will return to cinemas later this year in a special re-release featuring additional footage designed to bridge the story toward Avengers: Doomsday. The move is part of Marvel’s broader strategy to reconnect audiences with its expanding cinematic universe.

The presentation was led by Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige, who was joined on stage by directors Anthony and Joe Russo, alongside an impressive lineup of Marvel stars including Chris Evans, Pedro Pascal, Ryan Reynolds, Simu Liu, and several other cast members from upcoming projects. Fans attending the event received exclusive Doctor Doom masks and themed collectibles as part of Marvel’s showcase.
